WHEN YOU ARE DONE, THERE IS STILL FIRE

(2022) 18 x 24”

Print & Public Practice project, vinyl prints placed on yard signs around campus providing commentary on an unknown or curious site. I chose the Eternal Flame sculpture that commemorates the university’s dedication to civil rights, providing commentary on the irony of the sculpture because of the university’s inaction in student wellbeing regarding health, race-based violence, and sexual assualt.
The first two panels provide quotes from Civil Rights leaders, while the final one is covered in quotes and headlines from 2020 - 2022 detailing human rights violations that the univesity/general public has been inactive in mending.
The final panel displays the eyes of Dr. King, staring at the viewer and encouraging action a la “I Had a Dream” (1968) by Edward Biberman.
